Co-Occurring Disorders in Adolescents: …

Co-Occurring Disorders in Adolescents: I attended an exciting conference today sponsored by The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources. Over 300 professionals were in attendance. Dr. Bert Pepper, Founder and Executive Director of the Information Exchange presented an informative keynote address titled” Blamed and Ashamed” detailing treatment approaches to co-occurring disorders in adolescents with an emphasis on integrated treatment. Integrated treatment addresses both mental health and substance abuse issues, titrated in intensity and responsive to many different symptoms. Ideally, it is provided by a cross trained team.

It affirmed for me that the integrated approach used at The Family Foundation School, a therapeutic boarding school, is on target for our students with co-occurring disorders.
